Middle Corridor Is Seen as Alternative Trade Route Amid Global Conflicts
Speaking to a news agency on the sidelines of the Fifth Antalya Diplomacy Forum in southern Türkiye, OTS Secretary General Kubanychbek Omuraliev highlighted the increasing strategic importance of the corridor. He noted that it was previously seen mainly as an alternative route, especially before the Russia-Ukraine conflict and rising tensions in the Middle East.
He added that in the short term, the corridor is becoming “more efficient, safer, shorter and cheaper.”
Also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the Middle Corridor is a developing multimodal logistics network that combines rail and sea transport. It links China and Southeast Asia to Europe through Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye.
Omuraliev also discussed the role of the Organization of Turkic States, stressing that it is not intended to directly resolve conflicts but instead serves as a platform for regional cooperation across various sectors.
He described the organization as distinctive due to its foundation in shared history, culture, language, and heritage among member states.
