Poland Forms Dedicated Unit to Probe Epstein-Linked Trafficking of Minors

(MENAFN) Polish authorities have set up a special investigative team to look into allegations that minors in Poland were recruited for sexual exploitation as part of the network of disgraced US financier Jeffrey Epstein, according to reports on Tuesday.

The decision comes after the release in January of a new batch of US documents related to Epstein, reportedly totaling around three million files, which Polish officials say merit further investigation into possible links to the country.

The National Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday that a newly formed unit, named “Investigation Team No. 5,” will carry out preliminary inquiries into what it described as “an organized criminal group of an international nature” operating between 2005 and 2018.

Prosecutors say the group allegedly worked “with the involvement of Polish citizens” and engaged in human trafficking by luring minors with false promises of careers in fashion agencies before subjecting them to sexual exploitation.

Three seasoned prosecutors have been assigned to lead the investigation, with officials noting that any decision to open a full criminal case will depend on the evidence gathered during the preliminary stage.

Separately, the Justice Ministry confirmed the creation of an analytical task force, chaired by Justice Minister Waldemar Zurek, to examine the newly released US documents.

“It is our duty to provide a reliable and impartial explanation of all Polish aspects in the so-called Epstein affair,” Zurek said in a statement.
