Xi Congratulates Kim on Reelection as N. Korea’s Top Party Leader
Xi, who also holds the role of general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, expressed his willingness to collaborate with Kim to “write a new chapter” in the friendship between the two countries, reports from Beijing indicated.
Kim secured reelection during the ninth Congress of the Workers’ Party held in Pyongyang on Sunday. In North Korea, the ruling party, rather than the state presidency, represents the highest authority. The general secretary position is the top party office and effectively serves as the nation’s most powerful role.
