Romania reports suspected drone incursions near Ukrainian border

(MENAFN) Romania’s Defense Ministry announced Tuesday that its air-defense monitoring systems had identified two possible drone incursions into national airspace close to the Ukrainian frontier, according to reports.

The first detection occurred in the morning over Tulcea County, when an unidentified aerial object crossed into Romania from the Valcov area of Ukraine and moved toward Chilia Veche.

At 06:28 a.m. (0428GMT), two German Eurofighter Typhoons based at Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base were scrambled to investigate. Officials also issued a Ro-Alert notification to residents in Tulcea.

By 07:11 a.m. (0511GMT), the Typhoon pilots reported picking up the object on radar but confirmed it had already returned to Ukrainian airspace.

A second episode unfolded soon after.

Defense radars detected another unidentified object at 07:50 a.m. in the Galati region, and F-16 aircraft quickly made radar contact with the target.

The ministry said the situation continues to be closely observed, with Romanian and NATO air-defense networks maintaining active surveillance along the eastern border.
