Aggressive protests force Indonesian president to cancel trip to China
At least three people were killed and multiple others injured on Saturday as demonstrators set fire to government buildings in Jakarta following the death of a 21-year-old motorcycle taxi driver, Affan Kurniawan, who was struck by a police armored vehicle on Thursday. Protesters attacked police outposts, torched vehicles, and damaged the city’s police command headquarters.
M. Fadli, acting head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency, reported that eight people were evacuated from the burning Makassar City DPRD Office, three of whom were declared dead, likely trapped inside the building. Authorities are continuing to assess the situation as nationwide unrest persists.
